What is a Nutritional Advisor?

A nutritional advisor is a professional who provides guidance on dietary choices and healthy eating habits. Their primary focus is on helping individuals develop a well-rounded eating plate that incorporates a variety of food groups, promoting overall health and wellbeing. This role involves assessing personal dietary preferences, lifestyle factors, and nutritional needs to create balanced eating plans tailored to the individual.

Nutritional advisors are not equipped to diagnose or treat specific medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease. Instead, they emphasize the importance of healthy eating patterns and the psychological aspects of food relationships. By addressing behavioural patterns surrounding eating habits, a nutritional advisor can support clients in making informed decisions that lead to a more positive and balanced interaction with food. This holistic approach aims to improve overall wellbeing through mindful eating practices and educational resources.

“One of the easiest ways i find dealing with food is to create habits and routines for certain foods that take away our need for making decisions, such as meal planning. If you have already planned for example that breakfast each day is, 3 boiled eggs, a few slices of cheese and an orange, it takes away the thought process of, ‘hmm, I wonder if should have cereal or eggs this morning?’. By reducing our daily decision requirements, we’re already preparing to make better food choices in the long term.
